Multiple reports state that Naomi Pomeroy, a cookbook author and chef who won a James Beard award, passed away at the age of 49.
Portland Monthly revealed that Naomi Pomeroy perished during an inner tubing mishap over the weekend, and Pomeroy’s family confirmed the death to them. The Oregonian claims that her spouse, Kyle Linden Webster, and an unidentified third person were also on the float but they both made it out alive.

According to KEZI, the catastrophe happened on the evening of July 13 when the inner tubes which were linked together snagged while floating down the Willamette River. The Oregon Sheriff’s office in Benton County is still working to locate Pomeroy’s body.
“What a loss. Naomi was not just a fabulous chef and entrepreneur, but an amazing human being,” the Congressman said of Pomeroy in a statement after the news of her passing went public.
Age 49 Naomi Pomeroy revealed in an interview that she started cooking when she was three and wrote her first recipe when she was four. She earned a history degree from Lewis & Clark College in 1997. She did her bachelors in arts from Lewis and Clark College. Naomi is survived by her husband Kyle Webster who is also her co-partner.
Naomi was born and raised in Corvallis, Oregon and spent her childhood hanging around the stove and in backyard gardens with her mother.

Naomi Pomeroy career
Naomi Pomeroy gained popularity in the Portland region for her creative cuisine at eateries such as Beast, which subsequently changed its name to Ripe Cooperative. She was working on a restaurant in the former Woodsman Tavern site and just built a permanent home for her custard shop, Cornet Custard.
She was also well-known for her tenure on Top Chef Masters, and early in her career, Food & Wine and Oprah both hailed her as a new chef to watch. She has received three nominations prior to winning the 2014 James Beard Award for Best Chef Pacific Northwest. Pomeroy was scheduled to host restaurateur Luke Dirks for a Garden Party dinner series this summer.
During the pandemic, Naomi collaborated closely with Congressman Earl Blumenauer to obtain federal funding for the preservation of eateries. Food & Wine named Pomeroy one of America’s Top 10 Best New Chefs in 2009.
Her ability was also acknowledged by Oprah Magazine, which listed her as one of the Top 10 Women on the Rise in 2010. She participated in the 2013 season of Top Chefs Masters, but she was unable to advance in the culinary competition.
Pomeroy was a guest judge on Bobby’s Triple Threat’s second season as recently as last year.
