She works as a psychologist and was chosen as an SNP councillor for Dundee’s West End in May 2022. El-Nakla had previously served as Shona Robison’s assistant when she was the minister of health in Scotland.
She declared at the time of her election: “I really want to take this time in the next five years to invest in women and get them into politics.” I think we haven’t seen a female councillor in the Broughty Ferry ward in long.”
The couple was married in 2019 and reside in the neighbourhood of Broughty Ferry, which is four miles east of Dundee.
El-Nakla, 39, got married to Yousaf in 2019. She was born in Scotland to a Palestinian father and has family in Gaza as her brother and his wife currently live there. Her ex-husband was Fariad Umar and her ex-lover was ex-SNP member Craig Melville with her having a daughter from her previous marriage as well.

Additionally, Yousaf’s current marriage is not his first. Gail Lythgoe, a former SNP employee, was his first wife from 2010 to 2016.
Given that Yousaf is expected to succeed Alex Salmond as First Minister of Scotland, his wife and family will receive a lot more media attention.
Yousaf Thanked His Wife And Kid For The Support
Yousaf spoke briefly about his family after winning the SNP leadership race.
He thanked his wife, their daughters, and the campaign staff in his remarks, referring to them as “very special people.” He said that without their support, inspiration, and hard work, he wouldn’t have won this place.
Yousaf continued by praising his “amazing wife” and saying that she served as his “compass” during his most trying moments.
