Hit Em Up, Rapper Tupac Shakur’s stepdad, Mutulu Shakur is making headlines after it was announced that the latter is going to be released on Parole on the release date of December 16 after spending more than 35 years in prison

As per a report by the New York Post, the 72-year-old is suffering from advanced blood cancer, which is why he was granted parole back in October. He is all set to be released on December 16.

The US Parole Commission stated in a notice that Mutulu, suffering from several health problems, including stage-3 multiple myeloma, a blood cancer which can affect the bones and kidneys, which is why the Parole commission has granted him release.

Let us remind you, the stepfather of the rapper, is a former Black Liberation Army member. He was convicted for the planning of an armored car robbery which killed 2 New York Police officers along with a Security guard.

The American activist is presently being held at a federal medical center in Lexington. It’s a prison in Kentucky for incarcerated people who usually require care.

An organizer named Jomo Muhammad who with the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, has been working to free Shakur stated in interview about Shakur’s release, “There are a lot of tears of joy.”

Jomo further added, “There’s still disbelief because we were steadying ourselves for another denial. Now folks are excited about being able to reunite Mutulu with his family. We were crying together. It’s a long time overdue.”

For those who are unversed, let us tell you, Mutulu was sent behind the bars following a 1988 conviction for leading a group of revolutionaries in armed robberies in New York and Connecticut.

Over the course of years, the activists were denied release several times. As per reports, his supporters consider him to be a “political prisoner.”

An official of the US Parole Commission, stated to Shakur that, “We now find your medical condition renders you so infirm of mind and body that you are no longer physically capable of committing any Federal, State, or local crime.”

Who is Mutulu Shakur?

Mutulu, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 8, 150, was politically active since teenager, is a former member of Black Liberation Army.

As a teen he was involved with the Revolutionary Action Movement (RAM). Later, he went on to join the black separatist movement the Republic of New Afrika.

When he was younger, his mother alongside him and his younger sister moved to Jamaica, Queens, New York City.

As per a report by Lohud, the convict has participated in 12 robberies in those 5 years when his crew was active from 1976 to 1981.

In the robbery, the group stole around $1.6 million in cash from a Brinks armored car at the Nanuet Mall, leaving 2 cops and a security guard dead.

Mutulu married Tupac Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur in 1975. The duo had a daughter, Sekyiwa. However, in 1982, they went their separate ways.
