Letsile Tebogo won the 200 m event at the 2024 Paris Olympics in style as he started pounding the “Botswana” on his jersey even before even crossing the finish line. Following the win, Tebogo beat the USA’s heavy favorite Noah Lyles, who won bronze. Meanwhile, Kenny Bednarek came in second and won the silver.
Over the past few years, Letsile has been a rising star, even drawing comparisons to Usain Bolt. By winning the 200 m event, Tebogo became the first Olympic gold medal winner from Botswana as well as the first runner from Africa to win the event at the Olympic Games.

Letsile Tebogo is a Motswana sprinter who was born on June 7, 2003, in Kanye, Botswana, a village located in the southern part of the country. Tebogo is currently just 21 years old and nicknamed School-boy. Tebogo moved to Botswana’s capital city, in Gaborone, during the seventh grade. He recently won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 200 metres event.

Career and achievements
Letsile Tebogo first gained international prominence at the age of 17 at the 2021 World Athletics Relays in Chorzów, Poland. The same year in August, he competed at the World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. He won the 100 metres and finished second in the 200 metres.
The following year, on February 19, 2022, the then 18-year-old set a new national record in the 100m at the Botswana Athletics Championships with a new time of 10.08 seconds. Just two months later, he competed at the Gaborone International Meet, where he clocked a time of 9.96 seconds. He also became the first man from Botswana to break the 10-second barrier and set a new world under-20 record.
That same year on July 15, Letsile further improved his record in his debut race at the World Athletics Championships with an impressive time of 9.94 seconds. He then went on to break his own record again, the following month at 9.91 seconds during the final of the World U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia.
Letsile then became the first African to win a medal in the 100m at the world championships in 2023. Tebogo won the 200m final race on August 8, 2024, at the Paris Olympics, with a time of 19.46s
