Emad Shargi, Morad Tahbaz, and Siamak Namazi were among those who were unjustly detained and spent more than five years in Iranian custody. The names of the other two people have not been released by the US government in order to protect their privacy.
Notably, the case of eminent conservationist and Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation member Morad Tahbaz was particularly unusual. He was detained in January 2018 while environmental activists were being persecuted.
On the same day that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and dual British-Iranian citizen Anoosheh Ashoori were released and given permission to return to the UK in March of last year, Tahbaz, who is also a British citizen, was briefly granted a break from prison.
However, his freedom was short-lived, as he was later taken back into captivity. Now that Morad Tahbaz has been finally released, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed his satisfaction with the swap deal.

Who is Morad Tahbaz?
Morad Tahbaz is an Iranian-British environmentalist and businessman. He has been in the news because he was freed from Iranian custody after five years of detention in a recent swap deal.
He was born and brought up in London. He is of Iranian descent and holds American and British citizenship. He attended Columbia Business School for his education.
Morad Tahbaz earned a liberal arts degree from Colgate University in 1977 and an MBA from Columbia University in 1983. He is currently 67 years old.
He is a co-founder of the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation (PWHF). He was detained by Iranian officials in January 2018 together with eight other PWHF members. Along with his coworkers, he was given a 10-year prison term on speculative claims of espionage for the US and endangering Iran’s security.
The Iranian authorities also issued a travel ban for his wife. According to reports, she also departed Iran with Tahbaz. Tahbaz’s wife, Vida, was also stuck in Iran, though not incarcerated, according to reports. The two have a daughter named Roxanne.
