Earlier, reports emerged online suggesting that Daren Sammy has been appointed as the head coach of the WI men’s cricket team across all formats. The announcement was made by the director of Cricket West Indies, Miles Bascombe.

The Director of Cricket West Indies, Miles Bascombe announced the big change in the WI cricket team during the quarterly press conference held in St. Vincent.
As per the announcement, the right-handed batter will officially take charge of the Test team starting April 1, 2025, while continuing his role as head coach of the white-ball teams.
Who is Daren Sammy?
Born on December 20, 1983, Daren Sammy, whose full name is Daren Julius Garvey Sammy is a Saint Lucian cricketer. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches, Sammy represented the West Indies in international cricket.
Currently, he serves as the head coach for the West Indies limited-overs teams. The professional cricketer made history as the first cricketer from St. Lucia to play international cricket when he debuted in ODIs against Bangladesh in 2004.
He earned further acclaim during his Test debut against England in 2007, taking 7/66, the best bowling figures by a West Indian debutant.
As captain, Sammy led the West Indies to victory in the ICC World T20 in 2012 and 2016, becoming the only skipper to win the T20 World Cup twice. He was also a part of the West Indies squad that clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2004.
