Lee, a Toronto resident and MMA Fighting writer, asked Strickland about his previous comments, prompting the fighter to react strongly. Strickland, in response, not only made provocative statements but also questioned Lee’s sexual orientation as he said “Let me ask you something, are you gay?”

Despite Lee confirming that he was not gay, Strickland continued with offensive remarks, suggesting that having a gay son would be a sign of weakness and associating it with political preferences.

Strickland further expressed his discontent with Canadian politics and appeared visibly irritated by the questions posed by the journalist.

In his statement, Strickland said “No, are you gay?… Well no I’m asking you, this is a part of it, are you a gay man?… Ok, if you had a son and he was gay, you’d be like oh, man, you don’t want a grandkid?… Oh, man, well, dude you’re a weak f****** man, dude. You’re part of the f****** problem, you elected Justin Trudeau.”

This encounter shed light on the extreme nature of Strickland’s past comments, particularly his views on homosexuality, as revealed in a previous interaction where he expressed negative sentiments about having a gay son.

Strickland vs Du Plessis Fight Date

The UFC Middleweight champion’s controversial behavior extended beyond verbal exchanges. During the UFC Seasonal Press Conference, Strickland personally attacked his UFC 297 opponent, Dricus Du Plessis.

In return, Du Plessis brought up Strickland’s rough childhood, prompting an emotional response from Strickland. Later, during Theo Von’s podcast, Strickland declared his childhood off-limits for discussion and even issued a threat to stab Du Plessis if similar comments were made again.

Alexander K Lee explained his decision to confront Strickland about his comments, stating his responsibility to the LGBTQ community in Toronto. Despite the controversy, Strickland has not faced any consequences for his remarks as of now.

His scheduled bout against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 is set to take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, on January 20, 2024.
