The clip gained more attention after Srinivas BV, who is the president of the Youth Congress, shared it on X.
While sharing the video, he commented in Hindi:
This is Chungreng Koren from Manipur. If their family had the Prime Minister as a member, perhaps the people of Manipur would not be shedding tears today.”
Chungreng Koren pleads with PM Modi
Although there is no exact date of the video, it shows Koren speaking with emotion right after a match at Matrix Fight Night (MFN). Notably, Koren secured the MFN Interim Bantamweight World Title in that match. In the video, Koren pleaded with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur and address the situation in the region.
Modi ji, for nearly a year now, violence has ravaged Manipur. Daily, lives are lost, and countless individuals find themselves in relief camps.”
He stated this while detailing the dire conditions of the people and the lack of essential resources like food and water, disruption of children’s education, and more. He concluded by saying:
Modi ji, please make time to visit Manipur. The state is in urgent need of peace.”

Chungreng Koren is a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter from Manipur, India. Koren was born into a tribal family, and his father passed away right before his birth. As a result, his mother single-handedly raised him and his other siblings. From a very young age, he had to engage himself in physical labour in order to support his family.
However, he had a strong determination to pursue his passion for wrestling, after he first discovered it on television. Although Chungreng has been quite successful in the ring, he has faced so many personal challenges throughout his life. The loss of his brother back in 2019 was a major challenge, especially because he now holds the responsibility of caring for his seven-member family.

There are currently no exact details regarding his date of birth, however, he stands at a height of 5’7” (170cm).
Career and achievements
Chungreng started out training in the rice fields where he worked and eventually kicked off his MMA career when he made his debut at the Manipur Fight League back in 2018. Following his success in the competition, he greatly impressed Indian MMA star Roshan Mainam, who invited him to join the selection trials at KOI Combat Academy in Bangalore. There, he trained under the guidance of Coach Vishal Seigell.
Chungreng Koren has since had a very notable career, with a professional fight record of 5-1-0, and ranks 7th out of the 123 active Asia South Pro Bantamweights. His most notable wins were at the AIMMAF-IHHF National MMA Championship and his win over Afghanistan’s Sayed Firoz in the Pro Combat Fight League. According to Chungreng, he was inspired by Indian MMA icon, Kario Isaac Maheo. He still has a long career ahead of him, and he aspires to emulate the success of his mentors while also becoming a champion himself.
