Carolina Shiino is a Japanese model and beauty pageant winner. She has been in the news because her win at the 2024 Miss Nippon Grand Prix beauty pageant attracted controversy around her identity.
In 1998, she was born in Ternopil, Ukraine. Later, when she was five years old, her mother, Svitlana, married a Japanese man, and the family relocated to Nagoya, Japan. Her mother has won several competitions and works as a model. In 2022, she was granted Japanese citizenship.

Standing at 172cm (5ft 6in), Shiino was one of the taller contestants, and at 26 years old, was also the oldest.
