On March 23, the pair posted a statement on the X account of the New York Yankees, confirming the death of their youngest child. “With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller Gardner. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation,” Brett Gardner and Jessica Gardner wrote.

Miller was an avid athlete with a love for football, baseball, golf, hunting, and fishing and played high school football in South Carolina, where he wore No. 11, the same number his father sported during his Yankees career. In a highlight from last fall, Miller was seen making a touchdown run, showcasing his athletic ability and passion for the game.
In 2015, Brett Gardner was named an All-Star in the American League, and in 2016, he won the Gold Glove Award. The 41-year-old helped the Yankees win their 27th World Series in 2009 and spent his whole Major League career with them from 2008 to 2021. Brett Gardner’s career
Brett Gardner was chosen by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft, with the 109th overall pick, following his last year in college. Gardner was given a signing bonus of $210,000.
In the New York-Penn League, Gardner concluded the 2005 season ranked 78th in stolen bases (19), 54th in runs (62), and 268th in at bats (282). With the Tampa Yankees, he batted.323 in 63 games and recorded 22 runs batted in (RBIs) in 2006, earning him a spot on the Florida State League All Star team.
He led the Florida State League in stolen bases with thirty during this season and finished third in batting average. With 47 walks, Gardner also ranked second in the league.
Gardner hit a grand slam off Ryan Brasier on April 17, 2019, his 100th home run in his career, giving the Yankees a decisive 5-3 lead over the Boston Red Sox.
