On Sunday in Varsha, over 400 labourers, ten previous municipal corporations, twenty prominent trader and merchant unions, and twenty senior party officials will also join the Shiv Sena alongside Milind Deora. Deora had voiced his opposition to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) staking claim to the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat. He was recently named the joint treasurer of the All India Congress Committee.

During the Congress term, Deora held the position of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Communications, Information Technology, and Shipping from 2012 to 2014. In addition to serving as the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president, he was the 15th Lok Sabha representative for Mumbai South. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Deora defeated Jaywantiben Mehta of the BJP by a margin of 10,000 votes. Later, in 2009 Lok Sabha election, he won re-election from the Mumbai South Constituency by a substantial margin of 1,12,682 votes.
Moreover, in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s resignation and the party’s defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he tendered his resignation as president of the Mumbai Congress Party. Deora supported the appointment of an interim council consisting of three high-ranking officials to manage the Mumbai City unit until the Vidhan Sabha polls.
