Michael Wilhoite is an American football coach and former linebacker who was born on December 7, 1986, in Manhattan, Kansas, U.S. He was born to parents Jan Buckheim, and Greg Wilhoite. Wilhoite currently works as the outside linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). Prior to becoming a coach, Wilhoite played both high school and college football. During his time as a player, he was known as a versatile athlete, who could play multiple positions.

Throughout his career as a player, Michael Wilhoite was a highly versatile athlete, playing different positions. Back in high school, he played as a quarterback before playing multiple defensive positions in college, including linebacker and safety. Wilhoite played college football at Washburn University before starting out his professional career as an undrafted free agent. He first played professionally for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League (UFL) in 2011.
After spending a season at Omaha, he later joined the San Francisco 49ers practice squad on December 14, 2011. Despite being waived off during the final roster cuts in 2012, he was eventually re-signed to the practice squad. After twelve weeks of being re-signed, he was promoted to the active roster.
