Michael Bidwill started out working as a lawyer for six years as a federal prosecutor. He eventually joined the Arizona Cardinals in 1996 as the vice president and general counsel. By 2019, he inherited the team as its principal owner from his father Bill Bidwell. Prior to that, his grandfather Charles served the role after buying the team back in 1933.

Some former Cardinals employees have accused Michael of multiple wrongdoings, which included cheating and discrimination. The Athletic reported that from 2008 to 2021, the Arizona Cardinals had no HR director, nor fully-staffed HR department.
