Megan McConnell is a professional basketball star who was born on November 12, 2001, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. McConnell comes from a basketball-obsessed family, with her father, Tim McConnell, serving as one of Pennsylvania’s top high school coaches while her mother Shelly has constantly supported her. Meanwhile, her aunt, Suzie McConnell-Serio, is also a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist. Megan was introduced to the game at a very early age and she has worked hard for every minute that she plays on the court.
Her brother, Matty, was an 1,000-point scorer at Robert Morris (2015-2019) while her other brother, TJ, a Duquesne (2010-12) and Arizona (2013-15) basketball standout, is currently a member of the Indiana Pacers and previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Her aunt, Kathy McConnell-Miller went to four NCAA tournaments as a player at Virginia (1987-90) and has been a Division I head coach at Tulsa and Colorado. She has served as an assistant coach at Pitt, Rutgers and Illinois and is currently the head coach at Trinity High School. Uncle, Tom, is the head coach of the Division II national championship contender IUP women’s team and had past stops as the head coach of the Saint Francis University men’s team (1992-99) and had men’s assistant coaching stops at Wake Forest, Marquette and Dayton and women’s assistant coaching stops at Colorado and Old Dominion.

During her time at Duquesne, Megan McConnell racked up 1,795 points (second in school history), 660 assists (a program record), 370 steals, and 1,079 rebounds. She also managed to record four triple-doubles while serving as the team’s engine from both ends of the court.
Her all-around game also helped her catch the eyes of WNBA scouts, helping her secure a contract with the Phoenix Mercury in June 2025. On her WNBA debut, she scored 3 points, handed out 3 assists, and hit 50% from three-point range. She is notably just the third women’s player from Duquesne to ever make a WNBA roster.
