A video of a New York City Police Department (NYPD) detective’s obscene pole dancing went viral online, drawing outrage. Melissa Mercado made an appearance in a World Hip Hop music video wearing a skimpy costume.
The video of Melissa Mercado received backlash after becoming popular on social media. The New York Post cited a detective officer’s statement regarding Mercado’s video who said: “I have no words.”

According to the recent article, Mercado began working with Bronx special victims in 2018 after joining the NYPD as a Grade 3 detective.

Melissa Mercado has worked with the NYPD since 2018 and is a grade 3 detective assigned to the Bronx Special Victims Unit. She makes $144,000 (about Rs 12.5 lakh) annually. Although her name is not stated in the video, law enforcement officials told the New York Post that she is the woman in it. According to some police personnel, this is a personal issue that doesn’t affect the department with Melissa partaking in the video during her off duty work hours.

Hempstead rapper S-Quire’s single video, Doin That featured Melissa Mercado’s contentious performance. The rapper can be heard stating, “I wanna tell you ’bout a girl named Keisha,” while she twerks to the tune.
Many officials expressed concern over Mercado’s music video going popular online, but many also claimed it was her own business.
Additionally, according to the police officer, Melissa Mercado was not wearing any clothing that would have identified her as a detective or connected her to the police force.

If Mercado hasn’t told the department about her profession, there may be consequences if she was paid to appear in the hip-hop video or if she performs similar acts as a side gig.
Response from the authorities
“If she is performing for money, if she has a side gig, the job would want to know about that,” the New York Post quoted the source who added that nothing she does in the video is the department’s business.
In order to disclose their additional occupation, police officers are required to submit off-duty employment applications, the official stated.
