Heartbreaking.
Iran’s security forces killed him for celebrating the US soccer team’s victory against the Islamic Republic.

According to several accounts, including those from the Iran Human Rights NGO, Mehran Samak was purportedly killed by government agents while participating in a mass protest in the northern Iranian city of Bandar-e Anzali against the regime’s dismal record on human rights.
27 year old Samrak, according to Iran International, was killed by a security guard while riding in a car with his fiancée. After being struck, Samrak was reportedly rushed to a neighbouring hospital, but he was announced dead before even getting there. Tuesday’s thrilling 1-0 victory by the United States over Iran ended Iran’s hopes of continuing to the knockout round.
Over 400 protestors have died recently.
Protests have been going on since September, when Mahsa Amini, 22, died three days after being jailed in Tehran for allegedly violating the Islamic dress code, despite the harsh nature of the Iranian regime. The protests soon embraced the fundamental rights of the citizens. According to a human rights organisation, taking part in the protests has resulted in the deaths of nearly 400 people.
Mehran Samak was reportedly laid to rest on Wednesday morning. BBC Persia published a video that was allegedly taken at the funeral service. The BBC reported that during the disturbance, mourners regularly yelled, “You are the filth, you are the immoral, I am a free lady.”
The Iran team is caught between the government and the people.
The sensitive situation there has put a lot of strain on the players, who are caught between the administration and the people of the country.
The players did not sing the national anthem before Iran’s opening World Cup match versus England. That, however, only lasted for one game because, according to the players, the government allegedly threatened them, telling them to sing or fear retaliation. There are concerns that the athletes’ loved ones could sustain harm once the team returns home.
