In 1974, Mary Elizabeth Donaldson completed her schooling at Clear Lake City Elementary School which is based in Houston, Texas, and further shifted to Sandy Bay, Tasmania. Her further education was done at Waimea Heights from 1984 to 1987.
She later enrolled herself at the University of Tasmania from 1990 to 1994 and holds a degree in combined Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degree. She graduated on the 27th of May 1995. Her height is 5 feet 7 inches and her weight is approximately 55 kg as of 2023.
She is the youngest of four children to her Scottish parents, Henrietta who is an executive assistant to the vice-chancellor of the University of Tasmania, and Prof. John Dalgleish Donaldson who is a professor of mathematics.

Mary Elizabeth Donaldson worked as a trainee in the marketing and communications sector with the Melbourne office of the DDB Needham and there she worked as an accounts executive.
Furthermore, in 1996, she was employed by Mojo Partners as an account manager. Later on, in 1998 her mother passed away and she resigned and traveled to America and Europe. In 1999, Mary was appointed as account director of having international advertising agency Young and Rubicam in Sydney.
In June of 2000, Mary shifted to a smaller Australian agency named Love Branding. However, from the spring of 2000 until December 2001, Mary became sales director and she was a member of the management team of Belle Property, which is a well-known real estate firm that specializes in luxury properties.
In 2002, Donaldson taught English in a business school situated in Paris. After shifting to Denmark permanently, Mary was employed by Microsoft Business Solutions from the 5th of September 2002 till the 24th September of 2003.
