Mark Adams, the men’s basketball coach at Texas Tech, has been suspended for making a remark that the college described as “inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive.” The reason for the suspension, according to the institution, is that Adams encouraged a player by using a Biblical text that made mention of slavery.

After learning about the event and writing Adams a formal punishment, Texas Tech’s athletic director, Kirby Hocutt, took the decision to suspend Adams in order to undertake a complete examination of Adams’ contact with his players and staff.
ESPN reports that Coach Adams issued an apology to the team after learning that one of the players had been offended by the reference. However, despite this, he was suspended from the game.

Who is Mark Adams?
Mark Adams is a well-known American basketball coach. He has been in the news because he was suspended for using Biblical text mentioning slavery.
He was born on May 14, 1956, in Brownfield, Texas, U.S. He attended Texas Tech University.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Jennifer Adams. They are also the parents of two children: Luke Adams and Abbie Adams.
He is currently 66 years old.
His career
Mark Adams began his coaching career at Clarendon College and then moved on to become the head coach at Wayland Baptist, West Texas A&M, and Texas–Pan American.
He took a break from basketball coaching to run a hockey team, but he got back into it in 2004 as the head coach at Howard College, where he guided the team to multiple victories, including the 2010 NJCAA Championship.
Following Chris Beard’s return to Texas Tech as an assistant coach, Mark Adams came on board at Texas Tech in 2013 as the director of basketball operations under Tubby Smith. Afterward, he moved on to Little Rock as an assistant coach. On April 5, 2021, Adams was elevated to the job of head coach at Texas Tech following Beard’s transfer to Texas.
He is currently suspended from his position at Texas Tech.
