According to Ovsyannikova’s lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov, she has fled the country after being placed on a wanted list.

Dmitry further stated that Marina Ovsyannikova is now “under the protection of a European state”. He refused to comment further because “it may turn out to be a problem for her”.

Marina Ovsyannikova Brief Bio

Marina Vladimirovna Ovsyannikova was born in 1978. She is a 44-years-old Russian journalist who previously worked for Channel One Russia.

Ovsyannikova was born in the Ukrainian city of Odesa to a Ukrainian father and a Russian mother.

She lived in Grozny with her mother before they relocated to Krasnodar when the Chechen War began.

Ovsyannikova used to swim and do artistic gymnastics as a kid. In fact, her swimming team won the Krasnodar university championship competitions.

Marina Ovsyannikova was married to RT television director Igor Ovsyannikov, but reports indicate that the pair had “just separated” in March 2022.

The pair have two kids together who reside with Ovsyannikova in New Moscow as of 2022. She doesn’t have an official Instagram account.

Career In Journalism

Since the early 2000s, Ovsyannikova has worked for Russia’s main evening newscast Vremya on Channel One. Where she described her role as “producing Kremlin propaganda.”

Ovsyannikova attended the Kuban State University before enrolling in the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA). Following which, the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation (VGTRK) hired her.

Ovsyannikova has been a journalist for the “Kuban” TV channel (a regional subsidiary of VGTRK) since 1997. Vladimir Runov the channel’s head is reportedly quite fond of Ovsyannikova and helped her get into RANEPA.

Thanks to her husband Igor Ovsyannikov’s protection, who is now a director in Russia Today, she was hired for Channel One Russia’s main evening newscast Vremya in the early 2000s.

While working for Channel One, Ovsyannikova retroactively described herself as “having spent many years producing Kremlin propaganda.”

No War No War

On 14 March 2022, Ovsyannikova protested against Putin and his invasion during a live broadcast of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the evening news programme Vremya.

Ovsyannikova appeared behind the news anchor, Ekaterina Andreeva, while carrying and shouting a poster that read “No War!! No War!!” in a mix of Russian and English.

The show has had millions of viewers. Videos of Ovsyannikova’s protest went viral and received extensive international media coverage.

Wanted List

During one of his broadcasts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Ovsyannikova.

Following the incident, French President Emmanuel Macron, gave asylum to Ovsyannikova at the French embassy.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian government, labeled her protest as “hooliganism”.

She is currently wanted by the Russian justice system as of early October 2022 after evading her pre-trial house arrest. However, her lawyer claims that Ovsyannikova has fled to Europe.
