When Mariah the Scientist joined the chorus at her elementary school, she learned that she could sing. While on a biology scholarship at St. John’s University in New York, she started creating songs. She eventually left the school to focus on her music career. Mariah’s sincere passion for science inspired her stage moniker. In January 2018, she posted the six-track EP “To Die For,” her debut, to SoundCloud.
On August 23, 2019, she made her label debut with the ten-track album Master, which was executive produced by Lanez. The music video for the song “Reminders” debuted on Complex on August 21, 2019, and the debut single, “Beetlejuice,” was featured in NPR’s Heat Check weekly roundup in August 2019.
In 2020, she was booked to perform at Coachella, Pitchfork Music Festival, and Primavera Sound. Buckles’ single “RIP” was released on May 22, 2020. Buckles’ second EP, Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission, was released on March 11, 2022. Buckles started the headline tour, The Experimental Tour, which ran from April to July 2022 in support of the EP.
