An Italy-based passionate hiker, Mariacristina Masocco, fell more than 1,000 feet to her death after she slipped off the edge of a cliff in a mountain.
On Sunday, November 20, the 26-years-old, who was from the town of Feltre, Italy, lost her life after she fell off the edge of a cliff while she was climbing the Punta del Comedon in Dolomite mountains.

Her friends only discovered the hiker was missing after they heard her screams. As per the local media, the hiker was walking ahead of the group on the 7,600ft peak after all of them reached the summit at around 4 PM.
Masocco’s three other friends who were together at a spot behind, suddenly heard the screams as they saw rocks sliding.
As per a report by Daily Mirror, the trio quickly rushed to find out from where the screams came and started calling out Mariacristina’s name.
However, as per the outlet, their struggle went in vain as they were unable to locate her.
The group instantly called the emergency rescuers and in response a helicopter tragically discovered the body of 26-year-old lying on a ledge below the cliff.
However, due to difficult weather conditions, the helicopter couldn’t reach her body until the next day. The rescuers reportedly took three of her friends together down the location.
The hiker is survived by her mother Angela, and her sister Francesca. After learning of the tragic incident, the Feltre town’s community is in deep shock.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of the Feltre, Belluno, located in the region of Veneto, Viviana Fusaro, paid condolences to the deceased and her family.
Mayor Fusaro stated in a statement, “The news that arrived this evening of the tragic death of the young Maria Cristina Masocco, which took place in the afternoon in the mountains, strikes us in a truly profound way.”
Mayor further added, “In these hours, no words can soothe the intimate suffering of the mother, younger sister, and friends.”
A funeral for the deceased has been arranged by her loved ones and is scheduled to be held on Thursday, November 24, at around 2:30 PM local time. The funeral will be held at the Feltre Cathedral.
