Vladimir Shklyarov, a famous Russian ballet dancer, passed away at the age of 39 in what officials are describing as an accident and he is survived by his wife Maria Shirinkina
A Mariinsky Theatre representative confirmed the news to outlet Fontanka over the weekend, saying that Vladimir Shklyarov passed away on Saturday, November 16, after falling from a building.
While taking painkillers, Shklyarov fell from the fifth floor of a building in St. Petersburg, according to the spokesperson, Anna Kasatkina, who talked to Russian media. He was supposed to have spinal surgery on Monday and had been taking the prescription for a back ailment. His wife Maria Shirinkina is also a ballet dancer.

37-year-old Maria Shirinkina was born in Perm on April 18, 1987. Maria Shirinkina trained under Ninel Silvanovich at the Perm Ballet School. After graduating in 2006, she became a member of the Mariinsky Ballet. Vladimir Shklyarov, a principal in the Mariinsky Ballet was Shirinkina’s husband. They welcomed a girl, Alexandra, in July 2021, and a son, Alexey, in February 2015. In November of 2024, Shklyarov her husand who was a ballet star as well from Russia passed away after falling from the fifth floor.

Maria Shirinkina career
After making her debut as Juliet in Leonid Lavrovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Maria Shirinkina was elevated to the position of second soloist in 2011. She has travelled all over the world with the Mariinsky Ballet, performing in countries including China, Japan, Europe, and the United States.
Her repertoire includes leading parts in Chopiniana, Jewels, Symphony in C, the Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux, and the Sylph in La Sylphide, Giselle, Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Raymonda. She debuted as Nikiya in a grandiose performance in June 2016.
Igor Zelensky, the theatre’s new artistic director, invited Shirinkina and her husband to take a one-year leave of absence and become principals of the Bayerische Staatsballett in Munich, Germany, in September 2016.
Shirinkina made her stage debuts as Phrygia in Yuri Grigorovich’s Spartacus, Lise in Frederick Ashton’s La fille mal gardée, and Alice in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland during her season in Munich. She also made her full-length debut as Juliet in Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet and Nikiya in Patrice Bart’s production of La Bayadère.
Shirinkina was moved to the position of First Soloist with the Mariinsky Ballet in 2019.
