Despite having had a brain tumour removed a few years prior, Shyamali Singh of West Bengal defied all odds to win a bronze medal at the Tata Mumbai Marathon on Sunday.

Shyamali first complained of vomiting at the 42-kilometre point four years earlier, at the same race. She and her husband noted that this was starting to become somewhat of a pattern. Her husband told the media after the race, a report in Free Press Journal tells:
She ran in a TCS race and won a silver and then she participated in Mumbai. She would vomit after 25 or 26 kilometres. The pressure would increase on the brain but we did not know.”
The pair eventually suffered a great deal after undergoing multiple rounds of examinations at various hospitals and discovering that the issue was actually caused by a brain tumour.
However, despite the difficulties and financial issues, which led to them selling their land for treatment, her husband kept on going and didn’t lose any hope. The pair lives in a rented home after selling their and which they had bought to build their house.
However, the land wasn’t more important than his wife. He played a big role and helping his wife recover and now she is back to running after going through surgery in November 2021. He started, as per the above-mentioned outlet:
During her operation, I mailed to everyone… from the MLA to the chief minister as well as the prime minister, but I did not get a response from anywhere.”
Santosh was a medium of inspiration for his wife dying their difficult days when she needed motivation to keep believing in sports after the surgery.
