Age 29 Sabastian Sawe of Kenya outperformed a star-studded field to win the men’s 2025 London Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2 hours, 02 minutes, and 27 seconds
The 29-year-old Sabastian Sawe, who won the Valencia marathon in December of last year, arrived home in the bright sunshine before Jacob Kiplimo, the world half marathon record holder from Uganda.
Four-time champion Eliud Kipchoge finished sixth, while defending champion Alexander Mutiso Munyao defeated Abdi Nageeye for third place in a photo finish.

Sawe is still a 26-mile novice, but he won a blistering London Marathon with a staggering injection of pace in what was his debut appearance at the marathon wearing the Adidas’s £450 Pro Evo shoes.
Sawe’s coach Claudio Berardelli was full of praise for his star and said that his buildup for London has gone even better than the one ahead of Valencia. “I’ve done this job for 21 years,” Berardelli. “I’m not sure I’ve ever coached a guy like him.

Kipchoge, Olympic champion Tamirat Tola, and Kiplimo were in the lead group at the halfway point, and their time of 1:01:30 was outside the world record pace. However, as the runners neared the 90-minute mark, Kipchoge was dropped.
29-year-old Long-distance runner Sabastian Kimaru Sawe was born in Kenya on March 16, 1996 but his height and weight isn’t known. While his net worth isn’t known, he received $55,000 for winning the London Marathon 2025 men’s elite race.
Sabastian Kimaru Sawe in March 2022 set a record in the Rome-Ostia half-marathon in 58 minutes 02 seconds but the race was not officially registered and therefore could not be used as a record. Some time later, he set his best official time at the Royal Night Half Marathon in Bahrain in 58 minutes 58 seconds, a half marathon which he also won and in September 2022, Sabastian set the Kenyan national one-hour record at the Memorial Van Damme with a distance covered of 21,250 meters, narrowly missing out on the world record.

Sawe barely missed the world record in the one-hour run at the Memorial Van Damme in September 2022, setting a Kenyan national record with a distance of 21,250 meters. At the non-record eligible Rome-Ostia Half Marathon in March 2022, he set a course record with a time of 58:02.
After winning the 2022 Bahrain Royal Night Half Marathon, he set a half marathon record of 58:58. With a pace of 42:35, he won the 15-kilometer road race known as the Montferland Run in’s-Heerenberg in December 2023. He set a new personal record in 58:05 to win the Copenhagen Half Marathon in September 2024.
He set a world record of 2:02:05 to win the Valencia Marathon on December 1, 2024. He won the London Marathon on April 27, 2025.

About ninety minutes into the race, Sawe broke away from a leading group of nine runners and completed in two hours, two minutes, and twenty-seven seconds. When his competitors slowed down at a water station and chose not to drink any water despite the sweltering weather, the 29-year-old took the initiative.
