Upon arriving to Manoj’s apartment following some complaints of foul smell from the neighbours, police found decomposed pieces of the victim Saraswati Vaidya’s body. The deceased 32-year-old’s body was chopped up into buckets and bowls at the apartment.

A police officer stated that:

We found both feet of the victim in the kitchen which he was about to boil.”

The police officer further stated the nature of the decomposed body parts and further added how they suspect Sahani must have murdered Vaidya at least three to four days back.

Upon his arrest, Sahani claimed that Vaidya consumed poison on June 4. He explained to the police that when he first saw her lying dead with foam coming from her mouth, he was scared that he would be booked for abetment to suicide. As such, out of fear, he decided to chop up the body in pieces and dispose them off. Manoj is a Hindu by religion.

Official police statements

Police revealed that Sahani met Vaidya 16 years back at a ration shop where he worked and have been living together for three years now. They further added the both of them belonged to the same community.

Meanwhile, deputy police commissioner Jayant Bajbale said that they believe Sahani must have cut up Vaidya’s body into pieces in order to make it easier for him to dispose.

A third police officer further added that some of the victim’s body parts were missing. He stated his suspicion that Sahani probably disposed them by feeding them to stray dogs or by dumping them in public dustbins.

He stated:

Since Vaidya was an orphan, Sahani said he was confident that no one would inquire about her. We are trying to ascertain his claim that the woman consumed poison.”

According to the police officer the couple often got into fight because Sahani suspected Vaidya of having an affair. He stated how that could have led to the murder. Meanwhile, the couple’s neighbours also shared how the couple did not mingle with others. In fact the main door of their flat did not even have a nameplate.
