Local police have made swift progress, arresting five individuals in connection with the horrific crime. Among those apprehended are two juveniles and three adults. The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vinod Kumar Dhiman, in charge of the investigation, has stressed that despite the religious identities of the victim and suspects, there is no communal angle to this murder.

It was revealed that Manohar was romantically involved with a Muslim girl named Rukhsana, much to the disapproval of her family. Manohar mysteriously disappeared on June 6, and his body was discovered only after locals noticed a foul stench emanating from the brook.

Community response and legal proceedings

This incident has incited outrage among local Hindu organizations in Himachal Pradesh, leading to demands for strict action against the suspects. In response to the public outcry, the authorities have filed a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections. Despite police reluctance to disclose the names of the suspects, one of them has been identified in the media as Shabbir, reported to be Rukhsana’s brother.

Manohar’s grief-stricken mother is calling for the harshest possible penalty – a death sentence for the perpetrators. She suspects that Rukhsana’s uncle Musafir also played a part in her son’s killing.

Rising tensions and calls for justice in Himachal Pradesh

Ravi Bharadwaj, district head of Bajrang Dal, warns of escalating protests if the authorities fail to deliver justice. Similarly, local BJP leader Ajay Tondon suggested a broader conspiracy involving a local human trafficking gang led by Muslims.

Local Muslim leaders, in turn, have condemned the murder and distanced themselves from the accused family. They accuse these leaders of stirring communal tension in an otherwise peaceful area. However, Tondon criticizes these statements as insincere, predicting that after a few days of expressed outrage, the Muslim community will regroup.

The case continues to unfold under the leadership of ASP Dhiman, promising rigorous investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
