With the game’s last kick, Oumar Diakite then stole the victory for the Elephants, but the action of a Mali player garnered significant notice.
In a video that went viral on social media, Dorgeles honoured his parents’ nation by declining to partake in his teammates’ celebration. This gesture is typically observed at the club level, as players choose not to celebrate when playing against or scoring against their parent teams on loan spells or previous clubs.
The 21-year-old, whose parents are Ivorian, was born in Kayes, Mali, and spends most of his holiday time in Abidjan. Dorgeles began his professional career with Guidars FC in Mali before joining RB Salzburg in 2021. Additionally, he played on loan at Westerlo and SV Ried in Belgium.
