52-year-old Gaurav Arya was born on 25 September 1972 to IPS Daya Kishore Arya who passes away on 10 April, 2022 and is 5ft 9in tall.

As the son of an IPS officer, Gaurav Arya grew up in a patriotic and orderly household. He has had a particular place in his heart for the Indian military since he was a young boy.

He passed the SSB exam after graduating from St. Stephens College, Delhi and was enlisted in the Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant. He was a member of the non-technical 57th Short Service Commission.

Gaurav Arya career


Gaurav Arya received his training at the Jessami Company-run Officer’s Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. Gaurav began his career in the Indian military as a second lieutenant in the 17th battalion of the Kumaon Regiment after finishing his military training.

When Gaurav was stationed in the tribal Lahaul and Spiti area along the international border in 1996, he slipped off a hill and was buried beneath snow. Despite being saved by his platoon, he suffered from a lung-related condition as a result of the tragedy.

Due to medical concerns, Gaurav chose to voluntarily retire from the Indian Army in 1999, following the Short Service Commission’s policy.

Gaurav completed his MBA in Marketing & Sales after leaving the army and entered the business sector. He had a number of administrative jobs at large corporations, such as Smart Group, Ernst & Young, Wipro, HCL, Hutch (now Vodafone), Spice Retail Ltd, and Sterea Infratech Ltd.

He gained notoriety in July 2016 after his article “Open Letter To Burhan Wani,” which he authored for Swarajya, went viral overnight. Burhan Wani, a terrorist from Kashmir who was just apprehended by the Indian military, was the recipient of the letter. He attempted to explain in the letter how Hurriyat leaders (Kashmiri separatists) utilize Kashmiri youth for their own ends, which are unrelated to bettering the life of Kashmiri civilians.

Several well-known Indians, including the Army General of India at the time, expressed gratitude for the letter. As a result, a number of well-known news outlets invited him to participate in their programs. He quickly gained recognition in India, regularly appeared on news shows, had a sizable readership on his blogs, and was asked to speak at prestigious universities.

He operates the Defensive Offence YouTube channel, where he posts independent content related to defence and geopolitics that is of national relevance.
