Major Ashish Dhonchak hailed from the village of Binjhoul in Panipat, Haryana. He was the only brother of three sisters. His parents Greedand Singh and Kamala Devi reside in a rental house in Sector-7 of Panipat. The major was married to Jyoti and five years back they welcomed their first child Vamika. The family met Major Ashish on a joyous occasion just six months prior, during his brother-in-law’s wedding.
Admitted to the army with the rank of lieutenant, Major Ashish Dhonchak was a shining example of determination and dedication. His relentless pursuit of excellence in both his studies and service saw him rise through the ranks. Known for his bravery and unwavering resolve, Major Ashish never shied away from facing the enemies of the nation head-on.
The operation against the terrorists in the Gadolay area was initiated on a fateful Tuesday evening. Colonel Singh by displaying exemplary leadership led his team into the heart of the battle. Tragically, during the fierce encounter, he was gravely injured as the terrorists unleashed a hail of bullets. In this selfless act of courage, Major Ashish paid the ultimate price for his nation.
In a heartrending turn of events, not only did Major Ashish make the ultimate sacrifice but also Kent, a loyal army dog from the 21st Army Dog Unit. Kent had participated in nine operations before this and displayed unwavering loyalty and courage. In a bid to save his handler during the encounter, Kent fearlessly attacked the fleeing terrorists by laying down his life in the process.
