After 7-year-old Athena Strand’s body was found near Boyd, Texas, the case of her disappearance took a horrifying turn. A North Texas resident who was spending the fall semester at home with her father and stepmother was abducted on Wednesday.

According to Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin, the suspect, Tanner Lynn Horner, has acknowledged abducting the victim and then killing her. Horner is being kept in custody while being accused of both aggravated abduction and capital murder.
However, in between all this, Athena’s family also become a hot topic of discussion their birth parents were separated and her birth mother got legal custody. However, when she went missing, she was at her father’s house. She also has one stepmother.

Who Is Maitlyn Gandy?
Maitlyn Gandy is the birth mother of Athena Strand who was brutally murdered recently by Tanner Lynn Horner.
She lives in Comanche, Oklahoma. She is the Minimum Data Set Coordinator at Meridian Nursing Home, according to her Facebook.
She called the suspect “a sick, cruel monster.” Talking about her child’s death, she wrote on Facebook,
Athena is innocent, beautiful, kind, intelligent, and just the brightest, happiest soul you could ever meet. I don’t want her to be the girl known as the one murdered and discarded by a monster. I want everyone to know, every single person in this world, that this is my baby and my baby was taken from me.
In a later post, Maitlyn Gandy pleaded with the audience to put Athena’s tale front and center. Additionally, she requested Wise County schools to have their kids wear Athena’s favorite color—pink—on Monday. She said that the community’s participation in the hunt for Athena may lead to the relocation of Horner’s trial to a foreign nation. She said,
I do not want the bas***d that took my baby from me and brutally murdered her to go to any city, town, county, state, or country without every single person knowing her face.
She also created a GoFundMe account to assist the family with the cost of the legal fees. In memory of her late daughter, she has shared a number of pictures of her.
