She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law and served as an assistant attorney from 1976-1980, and then as a district attorney from 1980-1995. She served in Maine’s House of Representatives from 2002-2009 and served as Maine’s attorney general from 2009-2011 and from 2013-2019, the first woman to serve as the state’s attorney general.

She married Stan Kuklinski, a widower with five young kids ranging in age from four to sixteen, in 1985 after meeting and marrying the love of her life. She became a full-time parent and assisted in raising their daughters while working full-time once they returned to Farmington.

Now, she is the proud grandmother of two granddaughters and three grandchildren. In 2014, Stan died after a catastrophic stroke.
