After Maidstone United made it to the FA Cup fifth round for the first time, George Elokobi encouraged his “history makers” to celebrate their incredible accomplishment.

Who is George Elokobi?

George Nganyuo Elokobi is a football manager at Maidstone United and a former player and football coach from Cameroon. He was born on January 31, 1986 and the 37-year-old stands 1.83 m (6 ft 0 in) tall.

Born in Mamfe, Cameroon, Elokobi was aged just eleven years old when he lost both his father (to diabetes) and his grandfather and he went to live with his grandmother the same year, while his mother moved to England to study.

After the death of his dad, Martin, his mum Irene left Elokobi and his 12 older siblings in Cameroon as she sought work in the UK to help better their lives. George is single and unmarried.

A look at George Elokobi’s career

Elokobi joined Dulwich Hamlet, a Division One team in the Isthmian League’s junior programme soon after he moved to England in 2002. In January 2005, Elokobi was loaned to League Two Chester City, where he worked under Ian Rush, for a month. Elokobi did not play for Colchester’s first team during his debut season with the club.

Elokobi’s request for a transfer from Colchester brought him to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Championship team, who signed him on January 31, 2008, for an undisclosed amount. On February 9, 2012, Elokobi was recruited by Championship team Nottingham Forest on an emergency loan and the loan arrangement would remain in effect until the Championship season concluded on April 28. He rejoined the Wolves team during their 2012–13 Championship campaign.

He was then loaned to Briatol City and returned to the Wolves unexpectedly. Elokobi chose to stay with Wolves through the end of the 2013–14 season by accepting a one-year contract extension option before to the start of the league.

On August 8, 2014, after being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Elokobi inked a one-year deal with League One team Oldham Athletic. Before player for Maidstone United for a season ahead of his retirement, he played for Aldershot Town, Leyton Oriented and Braintree Town on loan.

Elokobi was named caretaker manager of Maidstone United when Hakan Hayrettin left in January 2023. He then took up the role of permanent manager of Maidstone United on March 24, 2023. For the first time, Maidstone advanced to the FA Cup fourth round in the 2023–24 season.
