Artist A$AP Rocky has publicly apologised to a young woman he used as a “springboard” to jump over a fence at the Met Gala in New York on Monday night with Madelyn Llanes viral on Instagram
The video of the event went viral on Twitter very fast. In the video, 34-year-old A$AP Rocky is seen using the woman’s face to help him jump over a fence and into the Carlyle Hotel.

The fan, a student named Madelyn Llanes who is 21 years old, later shared a selfie on Twitter in which she looked a little messy and confused. She wrote in the photo’s caption, “ASAP Rocky literally just jumped over me.”
Llanes was identified as a Long Island native. In an interview, Llanes admitted to declining Rocky’s request for passage because she was standing at the barricade, which was at the end of the road.
Her Twitter says that A$AP Rocky asked her to move before he jumped on top of her. In a tweet, she said, “he tapped my shoulder and was like ‘Sweetheart I need to get through’ and I went ‘no’ and then he just shoved.”

After the incident, A$AP Rocky retweeted the picture and wrote, “LOL MY FAULT $WEETHEART,” which Madelyn seemed to like. She wrote on Twitter that she wanted the message to be printed on a shirt for her to wear.
But some people on Twitter said that A$AP Rocky was wrong to use the woman’s face as a prop. One user said, “The power of being famous is being able to use someone’s face as a springboard and have them look at you in awe.”

This is not the first time that A$AP Rocky’s stunts have made news. In September 2022, a film of the rapper at Rolling Loud shows him getting stuck in a mosh pit.

Even after what happened, A$AP Rocky and his girlfriend Rihanna were seen leaving the event looking very happy. A$AP Rocky later apologised for how short his set was at Rolling Loud. He said he was “hurt” that he couldn’t bring his “vision” to the show.

He continued: “I also want to acknowledge that even tho I prepared the best show for my fans, detail for detail, over the course of MONTHS… I was unfortunately not able to bring my vision to fruition and I’m hurt about that, and I want to apologize to all my fans and continued supporters and thank y’all for showing up for me regardless!!”
Rocky’s Met Gala incident highlights complex relationship
As a result of what happened at the Met Gala, some fans and outsiders have said that A$AP Rocky acts carelessly and doesn’t respect his fans. Others, though, have supported the rapper by saying that he was probably under a lot of stress and pressure at the time.
No matter what you think of what A$AP Rocky did, the situation shows once again how complicated the relationship between artists and their fans is in the age of social media. Social media can help bring celebrities and their fans closer together, but it can also make fans feel like they are being used or treated badly by the people they look up to.
