Mackenzie Donates A Sizeable Sum
Girl Scouts of the USA, a 110-year-old organization announced on Tuesday that philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, donated $84.5 million to the group including 29 of its local branches.
Ever since the Girl Scouts were founded in 1912, Mackenzie’s donation is the largest donation made by an individual.
The funds will assist the organization to recover from the negative impacts of the pandemic, which reduced membership.
Mackenzie Scott Brief Bio
Mackenzie Scott was born on April 7, 1970, in San Francisco, California. She got her bachelor’s in English from Princeton University while studying under Nobel Laureate Toni Morrisson.
The famous novelist described Scott as “one of the best students I’ve ever had in my creative writing classes”. She event went on to take her on board as a research assistant for the 1992 novel Jazz.
Achievements
Mackenzie published her first novel titled The Testing of Luther Albright in 2005. She won an American Book Award for the book in 2006.
Time Magazine also named Mackenzie as one of the 100 most influential people in 2021 for her philanthropic activities.

The pair were married together for 26 years before they got divorced on April 4, 2019. Following a divorce settlement, Scott received a 4% stake in Amazon worth $36 billion in 2019.
