Sam Allardyce is married his wife Lynne Ward on 1 June 1974. The couple first met each other when Sam was still a youth team player at Bolton Wanderers. They have a son together named, Craig (9 June 1975), and a daughter named Rachael (21 April 1979). While his wife’s age isn’t known, she is aged between 60-68 years.

Sam Allardyce playing career

Sam Allardyce started out his career with the Bolton Wanderers from Dudley Town back in 1969. He spent nine years at Bolton, and helped the club win the Second Division title during the 1977–78 campaign.

Sam then spent the 1980s moving across several clubs like Sunderland, Millwall, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers (second spell), Preston North End, and West Bromwich Albion. While playing at West Brom, he also worked as assistant manager.

Corruption charges

Throughout his career, Sam Allardyce has faced criticism for alleged corruption and twice been the center of undercover media investigations. Back in September 2006, Sam and his son, Craig, were implicated in a BBC Panorama documentary. The pair allegedly took bribes, which they went on to deny.

Later in September 2016, undercover Daily Telegraph reporters recorded him offering to help them to get around FA third-party ownership rules for a £400,000 contract. Following this investigation, Allardyce soon resigned as England manager under a mutual agreement with the Football Association on the 27th of the same month.

Leeds United looking to appoint Sam Allardyce

Premier League side Leeds United who are struggling at the moment are looking to sack manager Javi Gracia and appoint former England boss Sam Allardyce instead. Victor Orta, the Director of Football has reportedly left by mutual consent.

Leeds are currently placed 17th in the Premier League, and remain above the relegation zone just by goal difference. Moreover, they only have four games left this season. Javi Gracia, who was appointed in February as a replacement to Jesse Marsch has won only three out of 11 league games in charge.

Sam has been out of work ever since the end of the 2020-21 season after his West Brom side got relegated from the Premier League. It was also his first top-flight relegation of his career. Allardyce has previously worked with Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear at West Ham. If he does indeed join, he will become the Leeds’ fourth manager this season. Michael Skubala briefly served as the interim head coach before Gracia’s appointment.
