The Spanish Football National Team has officially announced that Luis Enrique has resigned as their head coach. According to a recent post by Fabrizio Romano, he is planning to return to club football.

Spain’s manager, Enrique, was fired following a disappointing World Cup run in 2022. La Roja beat Costa Rica emphatically 7-0 to start the tournament but was eliminated after losing to Morocco on penalties in the round of 16. The Spanish Football Federation has announced that Enrique has been fired as of right now and that a replacement will be found (RFEF) amd soon after that, new manager Luis de la Fuente was appointed. Spanish football coach Luis de la Fuente Castillo, who began playing professionally as a left-back, was born on June 21, 1961. He is the Spain National Football Team’s manager and is currently 61 years old. With Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla over the course of 13 seasons, he played 254 La Liga games and scored six goals.

Luis de la Fuente began his professional career playing defence for the Spanish club Athletic Bilbao’s youth squad. He played in the league for Athletic Madrid for six years before switching to Sevilla FC in 1987. He made his La Liga debut in 1981. Fuente participated in 254 games throughout the course of a 13-year playing career and scored six goals.

In addition to finding work as a manager at Athletico Bilbao, he began teaching at Club Portugalete in 2006. After leaving Bilbao in 2011, Fuente was called up for national service, first serving as the under-19 team coach for Spain, a position he held from 2013 to 2018, and then beginning in 2018, serving as the under-21 team coach. He also served as the captain of the national team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were ultimately lost to Brazil and held in 2021 due to COVID-19.

He is a coach who also enjoys a possession-based style of football, but whose teams can mix it up with more direct play from wide positions and has spent close to a decade coaching Spain’s age-grade sides, winning the Under-19 European Championship in 2015 and the Under-21 equivalent in 2021.
