In a statement from his family, LSU freshman quarterback Colin Hurley, who was hurt in a car accident close to the university’s campus early Thursday morning, has been deemed stable. Just before three in the morning, LSU police and the Baton Rouge Fire Department discovered the 17-year-old athlete breathing but not responding.
Firefighters and emergency medical professionals responded quickly, removing Hurley from his Dodge Charger and taking him to a nearby hospital.

Because Hurley was a kid at the time of the tragedy, LSU officials chose not to comment, and it is still unknown what caused the collision. However, his family has thanked the medical staff and first responders for their efforts.
“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion,” the statement reads. “Colin is resting and is stable while more tests and care are being administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.”
Colin Hurley was born in Jacksonville. He is 17 years old. Colin weighs 213 pounds and is 6 feet 1 inch. His father is named Charlie.
Colin Hurley is a freshman quarterback at LSU and graduated from Trinity Christian, where he won the FHSAA Class 2A championship in 2021.
Hurley was one of the top quarterback recruits in the country and 247 Sports listed him as a four-star recruit and the No. 22 QB prospect in his recruiting class. On3 also listed him as a four-star and the No. 23 QB prospect, while Rivals had him as the No. 20 QB recruit and reclassified to the 2024 recruiting class after committing to LSU in October 2022.
Colin Hurley became a member of a dominant SEC football team but didn’t play any games in 2024. He was a four-star recruit and a high school freshman who won a Florida state championship.
From 2021 until 2023, Colin Hurley attended Jacksonville’s Trinity Christian Academy. As one of the region’s top incoming seniors, he was selected for the Florida Times-Union’s Super 11 in 2023, and in 2024, he was selected for the Super 24 squad for top recruits. In 2023, he was also included in the Elite 11 showcase.
