“Life has been a haze this last year. After selling my company, I find myself in the totally un-relatable position of never having to work again. Everything feels like a side quest, but not in an inspiring way. I don’t have the same base desires driving me to make money or gain status,” he said in a blog post titled “I am rich and I have no idea what to do with my life.”

The names of his parents aren’t known and he is currently single and unmarried, having recently broken up with his girlfriend. Vinay Hiremath’s academic journey began at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010, where he studied Computer Science but he left school after just two years and transitioned from a small college town in Illinois to Palo Alto, California, to pursue his passion for startups. After that, he spent four months working as a software engineering intern at Facebook and is now studying Physics in Hawaii.
When Vinay Hiremath joined a firm named Backplane in August 2012, it was his first significant break as an engineer. Hiremath claims he learnt how to “hack” at this point. According to Forbes, he also met Shahed Khan there, with whom he later co-founded the video messaging startup Loom.
After working there for just over a year, Vinay Hiremath joined Upthere, another startup, in September 2013 to further his technological expertise. In 2015, he co-founded Loom with Shahed Khan and Joe Thomas. In April 2020, he was appointed as the chief technology officer after more than four years as head of engineering at his firm.
