Sarah Lavin, an Olympian from Limerick, paid a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram to World Rally Championship driver Craig Breen, who died suddenly on Thursday with some reports claiming he was his girlfriend
In the moving post, Lavin called Breen her “best friend and true love.”ย When the accident happened on Thursday around 11 a.m. Irish time, Breen was taking part in a pre-test event for the Croatia Rally. James Fulton, who was riding with him, was not hurt.

Motor Sport Ireland has also sent its condolences to Craig Breen’s family and friends. He was Ireland’s best rally driver and a full-time pro who raced in the World Rally Championship with the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team.ย Aiden Harper, the president of racing Ireland, said that the news of the tragedy has “numbed” the Irish racing community.
“Craig was a world-class driver and a world-class person. To Craig’s family, his parents Ray and Jackie, his sister Kellie, brother-in-law Darragh, and nephew Bobbie, I wish to extend my deepest condolences, and all our thoughts remain with Craig’s co-driver James Fulton. May they all find the strength and support they need at this unimaginably tragic time,” he said.

While some reports claim Sarah was his girlfriend, nothing has been officially confirmed. Craig was never married.
