Lia won the girl’s high school track meet in Portland, Oregon.

Lia Rose, a biological male from Ida B. Wells High School in Portland, won first place in the women’s varsity high jump during the Portland Interscholastic League. Lia, who was born a biological male and formally went by the name Zachary Rose, was competing on Ida B. Wells boy’s track team in 2024.

With a height of 4 feet, 8 inches, Lia Rose who competed as Zachary won the high jump in the Portland Interscholastic League Varsity Relays, two inches ahead of the runner-up. Rose was representing Ida B. Wells High School in Portland.

Addyson Skyles (of Leodis V. McDaniel High School) recorded a 4-foot 6-inch jump to take second place. Rose is a senior, and Skyles is a sophomore and two other jumpers tied Skyles’ mark but had slightly worse overall scores.

In 2023, Zachary aka Lia Rose participated in the boys’ division. Lia Rose participated in the same category the following year. However, Lia Rose was listed as a competitor in the girls’ division this year.

Lia primarily competed against JV boys in 2024, finishing second overall and setting a personal record of five feet even.

There were just two competitors in the JV 3,000-meter race, where Zachary finished second as a sophomore in track. Zachary was more than a minute behind.

Wednesday’s 4-foot-8-inch milestone set by Lia is noted as a “personal record.”

Portland Public Schools’ spokesman cited the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act “to protect student privacy,” but was unable to confirm or deny that Lia and Zachary are the same person.
