Who’s Leila Mottley?
Mottley is the youngest author to make it to the Booker Prize nomination list. She is just 20-year-old. She has authored a book called ‘Night Crawling’.
She was born and raised in Oakland, California. Apparently, Oakland is the background of her story as well. She comes from a creative family, as her father, Nick Mottley is a playwright.
Her book primarily deals with various subjugations and oppressions faced by a young Black woman. This book received both critics and readers appreciation.
She began writing Night Crawling just before her 17th birthday. She wrote most of the part of the book after her early graduation from high school.
Alan Garner is another writer who’s the oldest author to be nominated this year. He’s 87-year-old and so far has received various awards such as The Guardian Prize, and Carnegie Medal.
His book ‘Treacle Walker’ was extensively praised because of its vivid storytelling method as well as for its interfusion of myth and folklore.
Leila was an arts student in high school and goes to the Smith College.
