Who was Lee Southall?
Lee Southall was a Welsh rugby player who died unexpectedly while he was training. He was 36 years old at the time of his death.
He started coughing and passed out during a tag rugby play on Tuesday at Hollybush RFC in Caerphilly, Wales. Prior to him collapsing, teammates hurried to bring him water.
As paramedics raced to the club, his teammates began CPR; however, he was then pronounced dead after 45 minutes of struggle to save him.
The large gathering was hosted at Hollybush RFC, which is near Blackwood, in honor of Lee Southall, who was known as the “people’s captain.” While playing tag rugby at the club, Mr. Southall passed away.
Gwent Police said as per a report in The Sun that they, “received a report of a medical emergency at the Hollybush Recreational Ground, near Blackwood, at around 8.20pm on Tuesday, June 11.”
Further it was said, “Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who declared a 36-year-old man dead at the scene.”
The police continued, “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the coroner.”
