Lazar was competing with his brother, Luka Dukic at the CrossFit Games together and Luka had just posted a video of the brothers practicing the same route earlier this week.

In other years, it usually takes place in Madison, Wisconsin. Notably, the first CrossFit Games swimming event took place in 2011, following which it became a recurring event. During the 2017 event, another CrossFit Games athlete from Mississippi almost died from drowning when the event took place in Madison, Wisconson.

Serbian CrossFit athlete Lazar Dukic tragically passed away while competing at the 2024 CrossFit Games. Lazar was taking part in the run-and-swim event at Marine Creek Lake, when he drowned. He was last seen swimming about 100 meters following a 3.5-mile run.
The whole event was live streamed on ESPN+ as well as several other platforms including Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube. Notably, all the livestreams abruptly ended on Thursday morning following news about the incident. After receiving news about the drowning, the Fort Worth Fire Department quickly arrived at the location. After looking for several hours, the crews eventually found the body at approximately 10 a.m., following which the Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified it as Lazar Dukic.

Lazar Dukic was a CrossFit athlete from Serbia who was just 28-years-old at the time of his death. He was a four-time CrossFit Games athlete winner and the 2024 Europe Semifinal champion. Dukic was also the first individual athlete to win three consecutive European Semifinals.
Prior to his death, he was ranked 88th worldwide in the male category, and 33rd in Europe. He was the No. 3 in Serbia. Lazar Dukic has previously managed to finish ninth, eighth and ninth in the past three CrossFit Games. Lazar had a brother named Luka who was also at the CrossFit games competing together.
