Earlier, reports emerged indicating that the Orissa High Court had granted conditional bail to Ankita Pradhan, on Wednesday. The fiancée of Army Major Gurbant Singh, was recently assaulted by police at Bharatpur Police Station.

On Wednesday, during a special hearing, Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra expressed concern over the incident and approved the conditional bail for Ankita.
In addition, the court also directed the government to ensure better medical treatment for Ankita and also to cover the expenses for her treatment. Moreover, an impartial investigation into the case was ordered.
Additionally, the Orissa HC also warned the police officers involved in the incident to avoid such matter in the future and emphasized the importance of building public trust. The next hearing in the case is scheduled to be held on September 26, 2024.

What Exactly Happened?
The assault incident took place when Major Gurbant Singh and his fiancée Ankita Pradhan visited the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar to file a complaint. They alleged that the couple were harassed by local miscreants on late Saturday night.
Instead of addressing the issue, the police officers allegedly mistreated and assaulted them, resulting in Ankita getting injured. Afterwards, a case was filed against the Bharatpur police, accusing Ankita Pradhan of assaulting a female officer.
Police Investigation
The matter got worsened after Major Gurbant Singh met with the DGP, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, who ordered a Crime Branch investigation and transferred several officers, including Bharatpur PS IIC Dinakrushna Mishra and SI Baisalini Panda.
After a preliminary inquiry in the matter conducted by Crime Branch DSP Narendra Behera, the DGP suspended Dinakrushna Mishra, Baisalini Panda, WASI Salilamayee Sahoo, WASI Sagarika Rath; Constable Balaram Hansda and they were directed to remain under the disciplinary control of the Commissioner of Police.
About Ankita Pradhan
At the time of writing this article, there isn’t much information available about Ankita Pradhan. However, social media reports claim that the fiancée of Major Gurbant Singh, is the daughter of a retired Army officer.
Her to be husband captain Gurvansh Singh Gosal is attached to the Sikh Regiment of the Army, currently posted in West Bengal. Age 32 Ankita runs a restaurant in Bhubaneswar and also practices law.
The couple was assaulted by a few youths in Patia area and the brawl had reportedly followed an argument after the youths in a car chased the couple and stopped them shortly after Ankita had closed her restaurant at midnight.
Brigadier Pradhan, the father of Ankita, who was brutally assaulted by a on duty police officer at a police station in Bhubaneswar, said he had no words to explain this shameful and shocking incident.
