According to Newsweek, Lavel Davis Jr., a junior at the University of Virginia who died in the tragic shooting on Sunday along with two other people, was a potential NFL draught pick. The shooting happened on the University of Virginia’s campus in Charlottesville, which is situated on Cubeth Road.

Sean Lampkin, a football coach and recruiting coordinator for Newbury College, provided confirmation of Davis’ passing. Lampkin, according to Newsweek, was Davi’s cousin.

Two others were also killed.

American football players Devin Chandler and D’Sean Perry were two more victims of the incident, according to WTOP news. They were killed close to the campus of Charlottesville’s parking lot.

Lavel Davis Junior played wide receiver for the University of Virginia’s football team, the Virginia Cavaliers. In South Carolina’s Dorchester, he was born.

Lavel Davis Jr. could have been the next big thing in NFL.

He had a stellar rookie season with the Cavaliers, hauling in 20 passes for 515 yards and five scores. He had a 25.8-yard average per reception, which put him second among high school football players in the US. According to Newsweek, a knee ailment took him out of action in 2021, and after making a recent comeback, he sustained a concussion that left him sidelined for a while.

Due to his impressive performance, many in the business were considering him for the upcoming NFL draught. An NFL draught analyst named Ryan Roberts tweeted six likely 2023 draught outliers.

After his passing, Sean Lampkin tweeted, “Saddening, saddening news this morning.” He requested everyone to pray for his family as he feels they are crushed by the passing of hiscousin Lavel Davis Jr.. He said God took one of his most gentle, modest, and loving troops off of the battlefield last night.  Sean added he loves him and has already started missing him.
