Lalduhoma bio
Lalduhoma is a veteran Indian politician who was born on February 22, 1949, in Tualpui, Mizoram. He is the son of a farmer, Vaisanga (L), and his wife, Kaichhingi. Lalduhoma is the youngest of four other siblings. He is a former Indian Police Service officer who resigned from the security service to serve Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The veteran politician gained political prominence after he was elected as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Mizoram back in 1984.
Age
Lalduhoma is currently 74 years old.
Education
Lalduhoma studied at Khawzawl elementary and middle schools during his childhood and completed his matriculation from G.M. High School at Champhai. Around 1972, Ch. Chhunga, the first Chief Minister of Mizoram, appointed him as Principal Assistant at the Chief Minister’s Office. While working in that role, he also enrolled for an evening course for a bachelor’s degree. He eventually graduated with distinction from Gauhati University.
Lalduhoma career
Prior to starting out his political career, Lalduhoma served as an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in Goa. He later became in charge of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security in Delhi. After resigning from his service, he founded the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM). Back in 1984, the 74-year-old gained political prominence after he entered the Lok Sabha as an MP for Mizoram. Despite his early achievements, he faced a major setback when he became the first MP to be disqualified under the anti-defection law in 2020.
However, he made a triumphant comeback and won the by-election for the Serchhip seat back in 2021. He has since achieved a resurgence and helped establish his party as one of the dominant parties in the state. During the last assembly elections, Lalduhoma was the chief ministerial candidate for the ZPM-led coalition.
