Lady Hussey, who is currently 81 years of age, was reportedly more than just a member of staff to the Queen.
She served beside her Majesty for more than six decades and became a key part of many historical moments.
Who is Susan Hussey?
Lady Susan Hussey, full name Susan Katharine Hussey is the Baroness Hussey of North Bradley. She is the fifth and youngest daughter of the 12th Earl Waldegrave and Mary Hermione, Countess Waldegrave.
She is fondly remembered in history as one of the Queen’s closest members of staff and godmother of Prince William. Like other ladies-in-waiting, she is not paid for the role and continued to serve out of personal loyalty to the Queen with her net worth at $334,000.
Lady Susan Hussey’s High Role Of Honour At The Royal Palace
The former Queen’s lady in waiting, Susan Hussey, was one of the longest-serving members of the royal workers. She was part of the Queen’s staff for more than six decades.
Though the Royal Palace did not pay her a salary, her role was extremely prestigious and regarded a high honour. Royal historian Marlene Koenig, states that becoming Woman Of The Bedchamber holds a very high privilege.
Koenig told Insider:
To them, it’s a privilege. Some of them have become good friends – Lady Susan Hussey, for example, is very close to the Queen.
Lady Susan Hussey’s initial role at the Queen’s Bedchamber was to reply to letters after Prince Andrew’s birth in 1960.
However, as the years followed, Susan Hussey gained more status. She was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2013 birthday honours
In addition, Susan Hussey is also the godmother of Prince William and she was seen accompanying the Queen to her late husband, Prince Philip’s funeral, in April 2021.

Lady Susan Hussey was one of the longest-serving members of the royal staff. In honour of her service, she has received the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal several times marking her 30, 40, 50, and 60-year bars.
