We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson, survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild,” the statement read.

“The family asks for privacy at this time.”

Cathy and Ferguson initially met each other back in 1966 when Sir Alex was a rising star of Scottish football aged 23. The pair eventually began dating and got married just two years later in 1966. Their first son, Mark, was born in 1968 and the pair then had twin sons named Jason and Darren.
