According to previous statements, Cathy was the one who urged Alex not to retire when he first thought about it.

Marriage and children
Cathy and Ferguson initially met each other back in 1966 when Sir Alex was a rising star of Scottish football aged 23. The pair eventually began dating and got married just two years later in 1966. Their first son, Mark, was born in 1968 and the pair then had twin sons named Jason and Darren.
While speaking about Cathy style of managing the kids, Alex once said:
Cathy is fantastic with the kids. It’s a military operation with her. If any of them misbehave, they’re in the doghouse.’
While Jason runs an events management firm, his twin brother Darren works as a football manager following his father’s footsteps. He previously managed Doncaster Rovers and currently manages League One side Peterborough. The couple have 11 grandchildren as well.
