Who is Jesus Gil Manzano?

Jesus Gil Manzano is a Spanish football referee who was born on February 4, 1984, in Don Benito, Spain.

Gil, who is currently 40 years old, serves as a referee in the Primera Division of Spain. In a match between Malaga and Mallorca on August 25, 2012, he made his La Liga debut. He also appeared in the quarterfinal Copa del Rey match between Racing de Santander and Real Sociedad in 2013–14; however, Racing withdrew from the match after just one minute.

Gil was also involved in a controversy with Barcelona once. Lionel Messi declined to shake hands with him following Barcelona’s 2–2 defeat at Girona on September 23, 2018.

He has also officiated international league games, including the PAOK vs. Olympiacos rivalry on February 10, 2019, which ended in a resounding 3-1 victory for Olympiacos. A La Liga referee since 2012, he has officiated El Clasico three times in his career so far.
