On Friday, a tragic incident claimed the life of a 21-year-old engineering student named Kusumitha in Bengaluru who died in a BMTC bus accident
The unfortunate event occurred near Harishchandra Ghat in the Rajajinagar locality, involving a collision between her scooter and a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus.

The deceased was identified as Kusumitha (21), a student at Jain College. The speeding bus knocked down her scooter from behind and locals blamed the driver for the accident and the body was shifted to KC General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Kusumitha, a second-year engineering student at a private college in the city, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The circumstances leading to the accident were reported to be a result of rash and negligent driving by the BMTC bus driver, who fled the scene after the collision. Eyewitnesses at the Rajajinagar location attested to the recklessness of the bus driver.
Kusumita Grazed by BMTC Bus
For unversed, Kusumita, a 21-year-old resident of Malleswaram and a second-year engineering student, met with a fatal accident involving a BMTC bus near Harishchandra Ghat. Normally commuting to Mahakavi Kuvempu metro station on her scooter and then taking the metro to Kengeri, Kusumita was grazed by the BMTC bus while approaching the metro station.
She fell and ended up under the rear wheels of the bus. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, she was declared “brought dead.”
BMTC Released CCTV Footage
Passersby spontaneously protested, holding the BMTC bus driver responsible for the tragedy. However, BMTC countered by releasing CCTV footage from within the bus, suggesting that the two-wheeler rider attempted to overtake the bus from the left side, skidding and falling onto the left rear wheel due to the presence of an auto on the opposite side.
A statement of BMTC reads, “On careful inspection of the video clip, the two-wheeler rider overtook the bus — while operating from Shivajinagar to Kamalanagar — from the left side near Gayathrinagar.
“While trying to do so, the two-wheeler skid and fell on the left rear wheel of the bus as there was an auto on the opposite side.”
Malleswaram Traffic Police registered a case of causing death by negligence against the bus driver and seized the vehicle. A senior official stated that both the driver and BMTC officials were summoned for investigation.
The senior official stated in a statement earlier that “We have summoned the driver and BMTC officials for investigation.”
